The African continent is rich in natural resources. Some of its 54 countries boast resources like diamonds, sugar, gold, uranium, silver, oil and petroleum. Oil being an invaluable commodity, its production puts countries like Nigeria and Egypt at the top in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Proven Oil Reserves showcases the commercially available (and theoretically recoverable) oil reserves of a given country based on its recognized reservoirs. For the purposes of the GFP ranking, oil is a highly-valued component when considering a prolonged military campaign and is used in conjunction with oil consumption and oil production values. Four top countries posted increases in their international sales of crude oil since 2014 namely: United States (up 292.1%), Libya (up 69.4%), Iran (up 30.5%) and Iraq (up 9%). Those countries that posted declines in their exported crude oil sales were led by: Venezuela (down -51%), Nigeria (down -39.8%), Angola (down -35.3%), Kazakhstan (down -29.5%) and Norway (down -28%).
